Garnet is one of the most treasured gemstones for its clear, dark red color and powers it possess. Biblical legend is that Noah hung Garnet on the ark to light his way through the dark and stormy nights of God’s wrath.

A Greek myth is the story of the young and beautiful goddess of sunshine, Persephone, who was abducted by Hades, god of the underworld. Hades fell in love with Persephone and decided to kidnap her. The myth says that in one of the rare times he left the Underworld, he traveled above ground to pursue her, while she was gathering flowers in a field.

Hades eventually allowed Persephone to live on earth but not before he tricked her into eating pomegranate seeds, which guaranteed her return to him for a few months out of every year. During these months that Persephone spent in the underworld, the sun became weak, plants died, leaves fell and the world became cold, leading to what we experience as winter.
